Why the f 0 ( 980 ) is mostly ss̄

We exploit theW -emission process to study the measured weak decay D s → f0(980)π . We conclude that the scalar f0(980) meson is mostly ss̄, which is supported by different model studies.

We prove that recent data demonstrates unequivocally that the scalar meson f0(980) is mostly composed of ss̄ quarks and that the coupling of f0 to photons and mesons is in agreement with expectations from the linear sigma model.
